Unique Stenciled Wall Art & Cutting Edge Stencils GIVEAWAY

Giveaway week is here!!!!

Are you guys super pumped up for some awesome giveaways???

I am SO thankful for all my fabulous followers and in honor of reaching 1000 of you,
I'm hosting a week of fantastic giveaways :)

We're kicking things off today with a giveaway that I KNOW you guys are going to love!!

You guys have heard of Cutting Edge Stencils, right??
They've swarmed blogland with all kinds of amazing stencils for all types of projects and I was lucky enough to receive one of their awesome stencils to try out and share with you guys!!

So before we get to the giveaway,
I wanted to share with you what I've been working on using one of their amazing stencils.
(And, really, I'm probably going to be using the word 'amazing' a lot because they really are just that!!)

I had a tough time picking just one out because I'm obsessed with awesome patterns and they have  a ton.
I finally decided on the Zamira Allover Stencil and went with the larger sized one because I have plans to use it in my master bedroom makeover soon.

I haven't had a chance to tackle the room makeover yet but I was wanting to make these ugly guys into something amazing...

Ummm... 'what are they' you're asking??

Good question.

They are 2 pieces from a 4 piece wall art set from Goodwill.
Most likely from a Chinese restaurant.
They had some crazy oriental painting on it but on TEXTURED craziness that was peeling and cracking all over the place.

The people at Goodwill were actually horrified that I wanted to break the set up.
Honestly, I was happy that I was preventing someone from actually hanging that monstrosity up in their house.
Craziness, people.

I peeled off the crazy textured layer and then sanded and sanded and sanded.
After a nice coat of gloss white,
I took some of my Nomadic Desert paint leftover from my hallways walls and got to work with my Zamira stencil.

I ADORED the way it worked.
They make it so easy for you to line it up and keep going and the stencil works like a dream.
I had no problem with the paint seeping as long as I was careful to hold it down along the edges I was painting.
It gives guidelines to match the stencil back up which keeps the guesswork out of lining it up over and over again.

Cutting Edge Stencils also has wonderful videos to help you out that you can check out here.

I got giddy as it was coming together...

After I got the stenciling done, I was dying to try out my new Jigsaw that I got for Christmas.
I was really wanting to mount some pictures on the boards but was playing around with ideas for framing them so they'd stand out from the awesome stenciled background.

So me and Mr. Jig got to work on some scrap wood out in the garage.

And I cut out six quatrefoil shapes.
I was sooo proud of myself for cutting these guys out.

Like, jumping up and down excited :)
It's the little things, guys.

And the pictures couldn't be just any ordinary pictures, of course!!

I decided to give them some vintage texture and printed them out on some linen.
I can't really go ahead and recommend that you use your printer to do this,
because I don't want a lot of angry readers saying I made them ruin their printers or something.
But mine held up just fine :)

I'll definitely be doing a post soon on how I did this!

I painted the quatrefoils yellow and then laid the pictures out the way I wanted them to be on the boards.

To attach the quatrefoils, I flipped the whole thing over and used my nail gun to staple them into place.

Instead of just hot-gluing the linen pictures to it and leaving them like that,
I got some upholstery tacks and snipped the pointy ends off with some emergency shears.

I didn't want them to be permanantly attached so I chose not to hammer them into the pictures and wood.
I just hot glued the little nailheads onto the corners of the pictures.
That way the pics can easily be changed out.

Don't the fabric pictures look cute up there??
I love the texture it gives.

You wouldnt' believe all the people who wander up to them to feel it and ask me what in the world they are made out of :)

I am so in love with the pattern that the stencils give them.
It's EXACTLY what I was picturing in my head :)

I love that the Zamira print is a basic trellis pattern and not too crazy.
I can't wait to get it up on a whole wall soon!!

And I love having all my family pics up in such a unique way.

I was kind of sad to take down my gallery wall that I've had up for so long but I'm happy to have it replaced by something so bright and fun!!

And a huge thank you to Cutting Edge Stencils for inspiring the idea for this with their wonderful stencil!!

It totally made the whole thing pop and gave me the push to move ahead with the idea that was rolling around in my head.

A Little Table Redo

This week has been stress-city for us.
How about you?

If you follow me on facebook, you know that we took an impromptu run out to Competition, Missouri for a funeral.
Beautiful country, sad occasion.
And driving eight hours in a 24 hour period is rough.
Especially having class the very next day to catch up on.

I thought it'd be a pretty normal week of school but they love to throw stress-covered wrenches into the mix.
So keep your fingers crossed that I get good numbers in our lottery next week so I can pick decent electives.

Because that basically determines my stress load for the next year.

I took a bit of a break from fall this week and showed you my clock cloche on Monday.
So I thought I'd follow that trend and show you a quick furniture redo, kay kay?

I got this, er, beauty from goodwill a while back.
Cheap as dirt...and I think dirt was looking better...

It was outdated, worn out and needed a fresh facelift :)
So paint to the rescue!

I painted it my favorite go-to color at the moment- Pottery Barn Cream.

And then decided to add some extra fun to it with some stripes.
I taped them off with painters tape and used a glossy black for the stripes.

Aren't they purty?

I also added a stenciled design in the same glossy black to the bottom level.
In a total ADD moment, I failed to notice that my fleur-de-lis stencil I had just bought also included hearts...
hmmm.
I probably would have done something to get around that if I had not been so excited about the fleur de lis.
So they stay for now.

I used my antiquing glaze to go over the whole piece and then sealed it all with a clear gloss.

I love the stripes and the extra 'oomph' they give to it.
Doesn't everyone love a piece with 'oomph??'

And you can't go wrong with the classic black and white...

This piece was already put up on good ole' Craigslist and sold pretty quick.
Yay!

So I'm really hoping it's new owners are loving it :)

A quick before and after shot.
From sad and tired to fresh and 'oomph'-filled :)

Have you painted any fun pieces lately?
I'd love to see them.
Head over to my facebook page and share them with everyone!!!

I hope you guys have a fantastic weekend.
Mine will be filled with papers, figuring out my schedule and hopefully a couple of fun projects!!

Happy Friday my lovely followers  :)

Turning Modern to Vintage: End Tables

Remember how I said I have about a ga-jillion projects going?
Well make it a ga-jillion and four :)

Me and little man ran down to the fantastic Goodwill like four seconds from the house and SCORED.
Two gorgeous coffee tables, one end table and two wooden stools that I'm going to show you soon :)

Yay for a good Goodwill day.

So, when we got new wood floors, I picked out a GORGEOUS dark wood laminate.
I'm not a huge fan of the light colored wood so I just knew it had to be chocolate-y.
We found a great dark color with chocolate knots and detailing and it just makes me happy every time I see it.

But when we put it in our blue living room, the room felt so...dark to me.
It was a big transition going from our light carpet to the dark floors.
So of course, I had it out for the dark pieces of furniture.

Like these two lovelies:

We actually bought these at Bed Bath and Beyond when we first moved into the house.
I love them lots but they are in the living room we use the most, so they've gotten...loved.
Plus they were sitting next to the brown couch which now sits on the dark brown floors...

So brightening them was a must!

I used my Pottery Barn Cream color that I ADORE and gave them both several coats of it.

I dry-brushed some glaze randomly on it because this was the day when my glaze just didn't want to work.
But I liked it better anyway because it didn't get darkened all over.
Then I lightly sanded the edges to have that pretty dark wood show through.

I'm kind of obsessed with crates and ammo boxes lately and love all the stamped words and numbers on them.
So I decided to add military-esque letters to them.
Hubby thinks it sounds like a fierce weapon...but I'm not that cool.

M is hubby's first initial, followed by how old he was when we got married and the day- 19 and 7.
Sorry hon, it's kinda sentimental.

I loved the distressed look that the glaze gave the table.

And of course, I had to add my initial and numbers to the other table...

This table got the same treatment- painted, glazed and sanded.
I also gave them a good coat of Polycrylic since they are so...loved.

Don't they just pop against the floor now?

I'm kind of in love with them.
And pretty obsessed with that pottery barn cream color I got for five bucks :)

One last look...
modern to a faux-vintage.

Have B,B & B tables ever looked so good?

The Great Stool Makeover

How was your weekend?
Me and hubby had a fantastic anniversary date out on a little cruise boat...it was SO fun.
Pictures soon!

We've also just been trying to bear the fabulous Arkansas heat- we're thinking that moving north sounds good today :)

So when we first moved into our house...
there were these stools.
They weren't terrible.
They WERE uncomfortable.
And they were really really blah...

We tried putting cushions on them.
But that made it worse.
The stools were too tall for the little breakfast bar and the cushions made it so only little man could really sit there comfortably.
Good theory though.

So one day when I finally got fed up with them,
hubby dragged them out and cut a good four inches off the bottom of those little stools.

And I glued some fun wood embellishments to the back.
I mean, they really needed some life to them :)

And they came back in covered in a satin espresso brown
and reupholstered.

I loved the brown.
I loved the embellishments on the back.
And I loved that we could actually sit in them without feeling like a giant sitting in a hobbit chair.

But I never really cared for the fabric I just slapped on them.
Thus no blog post :)

So after I got out of school this past semester,
the now-cuter stools were dragged out again.

I just touched up on their pretty espresso color and then took those seats off.
Bye bye fabric I never really liked

During the first round of makeover, I added a layer of foam under the fabric to make the seats feel better.
A world of difference, let me tell ya.
So much better than those hard wicker seats.

This time around I used a simple but hardy dropcloth material I got at JoAnns.
I adore this stuff.

Stapling into the wicker is just as easy as stapling to regular wood seats.
It worked like a charm.

And I liked the result MUCH better this time :)

But it needed a little more personality and since little man is constantly counting things,
I had to do numbers.

I printed them off the size I wanted and then cut them out via exacto knife.

Easy as 1, 2, 3!!
(sorry...had to)

I used the outer parts to make a stencil and just foam brushed the pretty aqua on.

I sanded the numbers down a little to make them feel a little worn...
and was way too excited to set them in place that I forgot to take pictures outside :)

I love them sooo so much better now :)
They fit the house perfectly.

And the canvas fabric cleans up great, in case you were wondering!

Not that I ever have to clean them, right?
I mean, I only live in a house with a four year old and a grown man.
C'mon.

Little man counts them all the time and likes to sit in a different one each time :)

I'm excited about having stools that fit us...and the house :)

One last look of the grand transformation:

What do you think?
Much better the second time around?
