Turning Modern to Vintage: End Tables

Remember how I said I have about a ga-jillion projects going?

Well make it a ga-jillion and four :)

Me and little man ran down to the fantastic Goodwill like four seconds from the house and SCORED.

Two gorgeous coffee tables, one end table and two wooden stools that I'm going to show you soon :)

Yay for a good Goodwill day.

So, when we got new wood floors, I picked out a GORGEOUS dark wood laminate.

I'm not a huge fan of the light colored wood so I just knew it had to be chocolate-y.

We found a great dark color with chocolate knots and detailing and it just makes me happy every time I see it.

But when we put it in our blue living room, the room felt so...dark to me.

It was a big transition going from our light carpet to the dark floors.

So of course, I had it out for the dark pieces of furniture.

Like these two lovelies:

We actually bought these at Bed Bath and Beyond when we first moved into the house.

I love them lots but they are in the living room we use the most, so they've gotten...loved.

Plus they were sitting next to the brown couch which now sits on the dark brown floors...

So brightening them was a must!

I used my Pottery Barn Cream color that I ADORE and gave them both several coats of it.

I dry-brushed some glaze randomly on it because this was the day when my glaze just didn't want to work.

But I liked it better anyway because it didn't get darkened all over.

Then I lightly sanded the edges to have that pretty dark wood show through.

I'm kind of obsessed with crates and ammo boxes lately and love all the stamped words and numbers on them.

So I decided to add military-esque letters to them.

Hubby thinks it sounds like a fierce weapon...but I'm not that cool.

M is hubby's first initial, followed by how old he was when we got married and the day- 19 and 7.

Sorry hon, it's kinda sentimental.

I loved the distressed look that the glaze gave the table.

And of course, I had to add my initial and numbers to the other table...

This table got the same treatment- painted, glazed and sanded.

I also gave them a good coat of Polycrylic since they are so...loved.

Don't they just pop against the floor now?

I'm kind of in love with them.

And pretty obsessed with that pottery barn cream color I got for five bucks :)
