Giveaway week is here!!!!
Are you guys super pumped up for some awesome giveaways???
I am SO thankful for all my fabulous followers and in honor of reaching 1000 of you,
I'm hosting a week of fantastic giveaways :)
We're kicking things off today with a giveaway that I KNOW you guys are going to love!!
You guys have heard of Cutting Edge Stencils, right??
They've swarmed blogland with all kinds of amazing stencils for all types of projects and I was lucky enough to receive one of their awesome stencils to try out and share with you guys!!
So before we get to the giveaway,
I wanted to share with you what I've been working on using one of their amazing stencils.
(And, really, I'm probably going to be using the word 'amazing' a lot because they really are just that!!)
I had a tough time picking just one out because I'm obsessed with awesome patterns and they have a ton.
I finally decided on the Zamira Allover Stencil and went with the larger sized one because I have plans to use it in my master bedroom makeover soon.
I haven't had a chance to tackle the room makeover yet but I was wanting to make these ugly guys into something amazing...
Ummm... 'what are they' you're asking??
Good question.
They are 2 pieces from a 4 piece wall art set from Goodwill.
Most likely from a Chinese restaurant.
They had some crazy oriental painting on it but on TEXTURED craziness that was peeling and cracking all over the place.
The people at Goodwill were actually horrified that I wanted to break the set up.
Honestly, I was happy that I was preventing someone from actually hanging that monstrosity up in their house.
Craziness, people.
I peeled off the crazy textured layer and then sanded and sanded and sanded.
After a nice coat of gloss white,
I took some of my Nomadic Desert paint leftover from my hallways walls and got to work with my Zamira stencil.
I ADORED the way it worked.
They make it so easy for you to line it up and keep going and the stencil works like a dream.
I had no problem with the paint seeping as long as I was careful to hold it down along the edges I was painting.
It gives guidelines to match the stencil back up which keeps the guesswork out of lining it up over and over again.
I got giddy as it was coming together...
After I got the stenciling done, I was dying to try out my new Jigsaw that I got for Christmas.
I was really wanting to mount some pictures on the boards but was playing around with ideas for framing them so they'd stand out from the awesome stenciled background.
So me and Mr. Jig got to work on some scrap wood out in the garage.
And I cut out six quatrefoil shapes.
I was sooo proud of myself for cutting these guys out.
Like, jumping up and down excited :)
It's the little things, guys.
And the pictures couldn't be just any ordinary pictures, of course!!
I decided to give them some vintage texture and printed them out on some linen.
I can't really go ahead and recommend that you use your printer to do this,
because I don't want a lot of angry readers saying I made them ruin their printers or something.
But mine held up just fine :)
I'll definitely be doing a post soon on how I did this!
I painted the quatrefoils yellow and then laid the pictures out the way I wanted them to be on the boards.
To attach the quatrefoils, I flipped the whole thing over and used my nail gun to staple them into place.
Instead of just hot-gluing the linen pictures to it and leaving them like that,
I got some upholstery tacks and snipped the pointy ends off with some emergency shears.
I didn't want them to be permanantly attached so I chose not to hammer them into the pictures and wood.
I just hot glued the little nailheads onto the corners of the pictures.
That way the pics can easily be changed out.
Don't the fabric pictures look cute up there??
I love the texture it gives.
You wouldnt' believe all the people who wander up to them to feel it and ask me what in the world they are made out of :)
I am so in love with the pattern that the stencils give them.
It's EXACTLY what I was picturing in my head :)
I love that the Zamira print is a basic trellis pattern and not too crazy.
I can't wait to get it up on a whole wall soon!!
And I love having all my family pics up in such a unique way.
I was kind of sad to take down my gallery wall that I've had up for so long but I'm happy to have it replaced by something so bright and fun!!
And a huge thank you to Cutting Edge Stencils for inspiring the idea for this with their wonderful stencil!!
It totally made the whole thing pop and gave me the push to move ahead with the idea that was rolling around in my head.
So now that you've seen what I did with a Cutting Edge stencil,
now it's YOUR TURN to have some fun!!!
