Delicious Chair Revamp!

I have no idea why I've waited so long to post this project.

It's one that I have fallen in love with.

I guess that keeping up with Christmas posting put this on the back burner.

I have to tell you, looking at these pictures make me go CRAZY to be able to spraypaint.

But there is snow on the ground and I FREEZE.

So that's a no go.

Darn cold weather.

I have a lot of spray painting to do in the spring to make up for this lonnggg break.

Is it weird that I'm having spray paint- project withdrawals?

Like...is that even normal?

Anywho.

I got this ah-mazing chair on the side of the road.

Not even kidding.

I wish there had been a million more with it.

So I snatched that baby up.

Isn't she a beaut?

Not really? Oh but I could see her all dressed up :)

You see, my big DIY dream at the moment is to have a table like this one.

I have a gorgeous dining room table already but I'm darn-set on painting it.

As soon as summer (and time) rolls around.

So I've been on the hunt for a couple more chairs to go with my cane-back ones I have.

They will get painted this summer too :)

But this chair was PERFECT.

And just a little bit of caning on the back...

But a gross seat... so I took that sucker out.

I cleaned her up and then gave her a gleaming coat of Heirloom white.

Then I glazed her with my black antiquing glaze.

I found this yummy fabric at JoAnns and gave the seat a good redo.

And I just about died when I put them together.

I was in. love.

I think she's just gorgeous.

And the fabric was exactly what I was looking for.

The glaze made her detailed lines just pop right out...

Seriously.

I see this chair from where I sit on the couch in the living room and it just makes me smile.

Vintage-y Burlap Valentines Wreath

I didn't realize that I didn't have a name for this wreath until I went to write this post.

Hmm.

Somehow 'burlap and shapes' wreath didn't sound good... so vintage-y burlap it is.

You're okay with that, right?

I've been dying for something new to be on my doors once Christmas came down and wasn't ready for my spring wreaths (I mean, it IS snowing right now)

I always seem to have a problem with Valentines because it can jump over the 'cheesy' line realll quick.

And I'm not a fan of cheesy.

All the 'love' and 'hugs' and 'be mine'.... I do a little of that.

But I don't want to be smothered in it. :)

Here's what I came up with in a matter of a few minutes

(hubby wouldn't get off the computer to go watch our movie so I had a few minutes while he was wrapping it up to throw this together... I love that!)

I started with a green dollar store wreath form and just wrapped it loosely in my fabulous burlap garland I got at Micheals. I used it all over the place for Christmas and this was one of my scraps:

I hotglued the ends to the form just so it wouldn't fall apart too easily.

I dug around my craft table and found a whole pile of chipboard shapes from my scrapbooking days :)

I grabbed a few I thought would work.

And I also dug out my valentines paper... I didn't end up using the 'love' print...

I ended up using the red 'i love you' paper (it looked vintage-y) and the harlequin tissue paper from Hobby Lobby.

I have used that tissue paper on a million things! I've got a great tutorial coming up that I used it for.

Lurvve it.

Anyways...

I played with the chipboard shapes until I found a way I liked them.

Little man did his own crafting :)

And then I laid the shapes on the scrapbook paper and used my exacto knife to cut around them so I could cover them.

Then I used black ink to distress the edges.

(I'm addicted to fleur-de-lis)

Once they were covered, I hot glued them to the wreath and...

...here she is!

Not bad for a ten minute crafty moment, huh?

And it was just the splash of valentines that my front door needed :)

I found a wooden conversation heart that I distressed and stuck on there too.

Just a smidge of that cheesiness :)

Can't wait to show you the other projects that harlequin tissue paper has shown up on...

and I might just get to post again tomorrow if it keeps snowing :)

*fingers crossed*

And after this weekends' snow flurries, I'm ready for spring to pop up, kay?

Kids Art Desk Makeover

I have been dying to show you this.

And considering it was a Christmas present for my three year old, I guess there was never any danger of him looking on here and seeing it.

Nonetheless, it's taken me forever to sit down and get pictures of the after.

I guess that goes with the whole Christmas season.

I was so excited when I found this desk at the Restore a couple months ago:

It's the perfect old metal school desk.

I've been dying to have an art center for little man forever and this was perfect!

My mom decided she wanted to give it to him as his gift so for five bucks, we snatched it up.

Honestly, I have no idea why I picked red.

I guess because little man's room has red in it.

Although the craft room is the craziest green color (changing soon!!) so don't judge :)

The metal base was painted red and I LOVED the idea of giving it a chalkboard top.

I mean, it IS an art desk.

So it got several coats of chalkboard paint.

A couple weeks after we found the desk, I found the perfect little 3$ chair at the restore.

It was perfectly ugly and small so it came home with me.

Yes, those are foam stickers someone stuck on there... ick.

I gave the chair a coat of black and then decided to go simple with the seat.

Remember the monogram wall in little man's room?

I stole the 'R' for a little bit and laid it on the duck cloth I had wrapped the seat in. 

I traced around it lightly in pencil...

and then handpainted the red onto it...

Little man loves his R's...

and after forever, I finally got the desk moved in after Christmas and it got a photo shoot.

Honestly, don't mind those BRIGHT green walls... they won't be there much longer.

Here's the little lovely...

I absolutely love it.

Now he has his own little art station just for him :)

I propped a metal R on top just for fun.

See the R stenciled on the top of the desk as well?

Same technique as the chair- I just drew around it in red paint pen.

I got a cheap eraser from Hobby Lobby and dressed it up with scrapbook paper and stickers.

All of his art supplies are stored in these two bins (I also added an organizer on the top to hold his markers and chalk).

I got these bins at Garden Ridge and added tags to them.

The tags were super easy and just add a little fun.

I printed out "Ryan's Art Supplies' in Word and then adhered it to red cardstock.

They're tied on with some twine.

He's got everything a little boy could need... pom poms, pipe cleaners, wiggly eyes, markers, paper, coloring books...

He was SO excited because now he can make 'stuff' like mommy.

And the top is fun too :)

One of my favorite makeoevers. Ever.

Makes me happy every time I look at it.

I've added another little something above it that just adds to the cuteness factor.

Baby Gift: Initial

So back around Christmas-time,

when it was super busy...

we decided to throw a baby shower for a friend of mine.

One thing that I'm kind of known for with baby gifts is personalization. I love giving things with the baby's name somewhere on it.

But they were still iffy about settling on a name.

They were pretty sure.

But not definitely sure.

But I had to do something with a name.

I got the sweetest chocolate brown and pink fluffy blanket (I love shopping for girls!!)

and I decided to throw a little personalized something into the gift...

I started with just a few things:

*scrapbook paper (her colors were soft pink and brown)

*An unfinished wood cutting board that I got somewhere on clearance

*Wood "B"

*Ribbon

*Mod Podge

It was super simple putting together.

I just painted the "B" and then applied paper to it with Mod Podge.

I then applied another sheet to the board (front and back)

I adhered the B with hot glue... I didn't want to put it on too permanantly unless they did end up changing their name.

I attached some extra paper and ribbon at the bottom.

I finished it off by tying the gorgeous ribbon through the hole until it was frilly enough.

What do you think?

It was super easy and turned out super, girly cute.

I love making things for baby girls...

I got my clear cellaphane out, settled everything into the middle then tied it up with more ribbon.

I also slid a ribbon slide I had that said 'sweet baby' onto the bow.

 

All ready to go.

Now if they'll just stick with the name :)

Valentines Printable

Here's a quick Valentine's eye candy for you :)

I'm not quite ready to start decorating for another holiday but this is a line from a song I used to sing to little man when he was a baby.

We love singing it still.

UPDATE:

Several people have left comments saying that they couldn't get the printable to print at a good resolution...I was able to get it printed as a 5x7 but am unsure why it's causing some trouble.

If you're having trouble printing it just by saving the above picture, I've uploaded it here so you can download it easier. It should work much better!

(Please let me know if there are any more problems, the picture should work up to an 8x10 no problem. If you get it any bigger, please let me know!)
