"Places" Distressed Signs

I promise I have a ton of fun spring tutorials coming up
(hopefully this week)

But the beginning of this week is filled with a research paper, studying for my pediatrics exam and several other projects I have floating around.

In other words, all the yuck stuff of school.

So until I get time to breathe and sort through pictures and all that fun stuff...
I wanted to show you my second set of "places" signs I did recently.

Remember my California signs I did way back when?

Well I participated in Mine for the Making's fabulous twelve days of holiday giveaways back during Christmas time.
And gave away a customized set of those that I called my favorite "places" signs.
And I thought they turned out just gorgeous :)

So let's see what you think!
(get ready for some picture overload...I loved the colors just a little bit!)

The winner (Holly over at 504 Main) chose the color scheme and places, of course :)
And I adored the colors she chose.

They all got a good round of distressing so that their base colors shined through...

I thought the yellow and black 'Los Angeles' one would be my favorite...

But I think I fell more in love with the black and white "pacific grove' one
(don't tell the other two, though!)

So there ya have it...round two of the "places" boards.
I'm hoping to get an etsy shop up and running this summer
(I know, big dreamer, huh?)
and perhaps these customized signs might make it in there :)

I love love making these signs... they're fun to do and have amazing results
(at least...I think they do anyways)

Tell me, Tell me...
What would be your three favorite places if you had to choose?

I hope you guys have an amazing Monday!!

Spring Mantle Reveal & a Giveaway!!

I know you guys are super excited about the giveaway part...
...but I really can't wait to show you the grand reveal of my spring mantle.

So just hold out to the end of this post and you'll see the great giveaway you have a chance to win.
at least I really hope you think it's great :)

Ok.
On to my springi-fied mantle.

One last look at the before shot...my pathetic post-christmas mantle.

And fast forward to now...

What do you think??

Much much springier and lighter.
I'm in love.
So much in love it's hard to change things out for holidays- it may not get touched for easter.
We shall see.

Remember my old window frame from Christmas?
It stayed cuz I just love it.

What I love most is that it was virtually free to redo.
I showed you in Part 1 and Part 2 of the mantle makeover how I used everyday thrifted items and glammed them up.
Most of the pieces here are those kinds of projects.
Plus a few items I had on hand elsewhere.

This white platter was a wedding gift that I adore.
I hated that it just sat on a shelf so I pulled it out and added a rub-on to give it some more interest.
Whenever I get tired of it, I can just wash it right off :)

Part 1 of the mantle makeover showed how to make that stamped monogram art from a scrap piece of wood I had.
Then I showed you how I updated a couple ugly frames i had, inluding that white square one in Part 2 of the makeover.

I didn't put up a tutorial for my 'home' piece I did.
But it was super easy, so if you're curious, I can definitely spill :)

My favorite aspect is all the layers.
It took me a little bit to get everything just the way I wanted it.
And before I even redid all my pieces, I had set them out to get the perfect layout.
That way I could paint them knowing where they'd be.
I didn't want to cover up some vital part :)

These are my version of the infamous dollar store apothecary jars.
They're just filled with black rocks from the dollar store as well.
The white candle I had from my wedding and just wrapped it in a scrap of brown fabric.
The other jar has an "H" tile from Hobby Lobby.

Speaking of the fabulous Hobby Lobby, see that gorgeous white vase?
Totally from there.
I'm pretty sure I squealed when I saw the display with all those gorgeous pieces.
It took me FOREVER to decide on one piece.
And I heart it very much.
The end.

The only other items I haven't mentioned are:
*the baby fleur de lis by the oval frame (it was a gift)
*my dollar store tiled mirror that I can't put away because I lurve it
and
*the plaque that has the popular 'live, love, laugh' saying on it (from Hallmark forever and ever ago)

So...
does it work as my new spring mantle?

I sure hope so.
Because I absolutely love it.

One quick before and after just cuz it's so dramatic?
Yes please.

Lucky Me, Lucky You Printable

Want some yummy green St Patricks Day eye candy?

I was completely blown away by the reponse to my Valentines Day printable and wanted to give you something fun and free for St Patricks Day!

I've never really decorated for St. Pattys and because of my crazy school schedule lately, I probably won't get much up this year either. (I do have a couple fun projects to show you soon though)

So here's the printable I whipped up for you this time
I guess I'm still on a semi-romantic kick (we just got back from an ah-mazing marriage conference)
so it's got a little 'aww' factor and a splash of green :)

Go here to get it and download it for yourself!

As with all my free printables,
these are for personal use ONLY.
Please do not claim them as your own or alter them.

I printed it as an 8x10 and it worked great- but it should be saved to go bigger if you want.
(and pretty please send pictures if you use it!!)

So run off and go green-arize your house! :)

Valentines Printable

Here's a quick Valentine's eye candy for you :)

I'm not quite ready to start decorating for another holiday but this is a line from a song I used to sing to little man when he was a baby.

We love singing it still.

You can just right click and save to get it yourself!
(or click here to download it)
Leave a comment and a link to any picture you have of using it!
I'd love to see what you guys do with it.

Can't wait to get it up and framed.
Anyone else thinking about Valentines Day  yet?

UPDATE:
Several people have left comments saying that they couldn't get the printable to print at a good resolution...I was able to get it printed as a 5x7 but am unsure why it's causing some trouble.
If you're having trouble printing it just by saving the above picture, I've uploaded it here so you can download it easier. It should work much better!
Sorry for the inconvenience.
(Please let me know if there are any more problems, the picture should work up to an 8x10 no problem. If you get it any bigger, please let me know!)

UPDATE:
This printable has now been updated to include NEW COLORS!!Head over HERE to choose your favorite :)
