Valentine Interchangeable Felt Wreath

I've felt crazy unproductive for the last few weeks.
Valentine's is nearly here (like 11 days away guys!) and my valentine decor is sorely lacking.
I've done a couple projects over the years but I have about a half of a box filled with pieces to put out.
Sad times.

And I've got great ideas swirling around in my head...just have had no energy whatsoever to put them into action.

Take for instance the fact that I wanted to make a new Valentine's wreath...well actually I just wanted a new wreath in general once the Christmas decor got packed away.

Usually, I'd have it knocked out in a day.
Two at the absolute most.

This wreath took me nearly three weeks to finish.
Because  I'm lame.
And this first trimester + work + just keeping up with the house
has been enough to do me in everyday.

So this wreath took it's own sweet time to get finished.

And there were several times I nearly didn't finish it because I didn't like where it was going.
But I love how it turned out so yay!

Whew.
All that & I don't even have great tutorial pictures to share.

So I'll point you to what the wreath started out as... my original felt wreath
It had seen it's better days and needed updating.

So I started by taking all those tiny circles off and baring it back down to the straw wreath form:

This wreath form is h.u.g.e and took forever to fill.
But here's the rundown on supplies:

*A million sheets of white felt
(Just kidding, more like 18)
*Grey & White fabric (quarter yard)
*Burlap Ribbon
*Random scraps of red, blue & burlap ribbon
*Twine
*Sewing pins
*Black Sharpie

The tutorial is basically a mix of my original felt & fabric wreath and my most recent square felt wreath

I decided to use square pieces of felt rather than circles because it made the wreath so much fuller.
Most likely because the wreath form was so huge.
Plus circles are a pain to cut out :)

Here's my gorgeous finished product...I absolutely love the white ruffles against the fun pops of colors!!!

If you want to save a little time and add a fun pop of personality, you can do the little trick I did :)
Before pinning on all 1,546,324 squares, I cut a strip of grey & white fabric that I found at Hobby Lobby and pinned it to the inside circle of the wreath.
Just stretch it and pin as you go...the inner ring of squares you add on will cover the seam where the fabric pins to the wreath form.
It helps you save time plus I love the pop of pattern it gives it!

Once your fabric is pinned into place,
add all your felt squares.
Just cut, pin and repeat about a million times.
(Did I say a million times?? Because it really is...basically)

After it was all filled, I wanted to add some more color to it plus a little vintage.
Best of both worlds, right?

Let's talk the cute burlap banner first.
I used some wired burlap ribbon I had on hand and cut little pennant banners from it.
Then I took a black sharpie and drew lines down the centers to mimic the look of a grain-sack.
Because they make me happy in a weird way :)
Then they were glued to a piece of twine and strung across the wreath.
Pin in place.
Super easy to remove when I want to change it out!

You can leave just the burlap banner if you're wanting to stay simple & rustic.
But I wanted more color & texture.
So I added a mini rag garland.

I love that it took a bunch of my ribbon & fabric scraps.
Some were leftover from our wedding which adds the 'aww' factor to the valentine's part of the wreath :)

I pinned it onto the wreath above the burlap banner and went ahead and made another one perfect for spring so I can change them out.
(and yes, I'll share pictures of that when the time is right!)

I love how simple & texture-filled it turned out
and I love, love, love that I can change out the banners for different colors & holidays.
Make this pregnant, exhausted momma happy :)

So there we have it.
The one (& possibly only) Valentine project I've had up my sleeves so far.

Are you loving my new little (er, huge) wreath?
Anyone else severely lacking in the Valentine decor department or is it just me?

Red & Aqua Valentine's Wreath

And you just thought that I'd leave red and aqua for Christmas, huh?
No ma'am.

I fell in love with this color scheme hardcore over Christmas and decided it was definitely needing to stick around for a bit.
And Valentine's is the perfect excuse to bring red back into my aqua world.

I told you guys that I'm {not really able to} go all out for Valentines since grad school is royally trying to kick my butt.
(I spent about four hours writing up a mental health protocol last night- aghhh)

But just because I can't pink, red and white up my house doesn't mean I can't have a few touches of love, right?

And of course I had to make a wreath because my obsession requires it :)
And this time it's not in miniature form.

So, therefore, let me introduce you to the red & aqua wreath.

It makes me happy :)

Easy enough supplies:
*Styrofoam wreath form
*Aqua Yarn
*White Yarn
*An assortment of DIY flowers
*Pins

You know the drill.
Wrap, wrap and wrap some more.

Am I weird that this is actually one of my favorite things to do?
Some people really hate this part...but it's somewhat therapeutic for me.
I'm an odd duck, I know.

Here it is all wrapped and ready for some fun embellishments:

I really didn't do a good job making a tutorial for the red ribbon flowers on the wreath...
so this is as good as it got.

I took some wire that I had lying around
(I have a random spool of this stuff for some reason...there's no telling)
I cut off a good amount and then just wove some ribbon back and forth onto it.

Once I decided I had a good amount on, I made a circle with the wire, wrapped up the ends and then snipped the excess wire off.
So I had a little ribbon circle and then just glued a button to the middle.

Here's me weaving the ribbon onto the wire:

I made a few different rosettes and stacked flowers until I had the amount I wanted.
The big one I just completely made up and I still haven't decided if it's my favorite thing in the world or not yet.

But I adore the colors :)

Instead of hotgluing the flowers on, I pinned each of them on.
That way, when I get tired of them it won't mess the wreath up to take them off.
Making it interchangeable of sorts.

I also wrapped some white yarn around the other side to add a little bit more color.
I love how all the colors come together and that it's not overtly valentines.

I wonder if my neightbors ever wonder why I'm outside taking pictures of my tree with various things always hanging from it??

What do you guys think?
Was it okay to bring the red and aqua back out?

Hope you guys have a fabulous monday :)

Valentine's Mini Wreath!

Are you guys ready for some valentine fun that is in non-printable form??

I kinda am.
I love sharing prints...but a fun project is always a good mix-up.

I haven't been able to go all out for Valentine's...
mostly because it would be too much work just to have to take down pretty soon.
I'm trying to keep myself from getting too overwhelmed this semester while taking 19 hours of grad work!!

Which means that I need to pick and choose what projects to take on :)
So my house is actually pretty springified right now.
Which Arkansas seems to be more in tune with since we haven't really had any good winter weather.

But I had to make a couple valentine's projects to spread the love a little.

So I decided to make a cute mini-wreath.
Yup. Mini.

I found these cuties in the Target dollar spot right before Christmas and never got around to using them.
Though I mostly bought them because of their size and I knew they could be re-used.

I just took  some small sewing scissors and snipped the yarn off the form.
I ended up with a cute, tiny little wreath form :)

Which Simon thought was his toy.

I re-wrapped it with some red yarn and embellished it with some cute hearts I had on had...
I decided it needed a mini place to hang so I hung it from an extra frame I had...

The hearts were some chipboard hearts that I re-did.
The bigger one I wrapped with twine and the smaller one had some paper mod-podged onto it.
I wrapped a little bit of embroidery thread around the red yarn to add a little more contrast.

Mini wreaths call for mini embellishements :)

I stuck some houndstooth scrapbook paper in the frame and then clamped the ribbon into the frame to hang the wreath.
Now I can change it out whenever I feel like it.
And with my obsession with wreaths- you can bet you'll be seeing some more mini wreaths!!

For now, she hangs in the corner of my living room.
Did you notice one of my valentine's prints peeking out at the bottom?
Just adding a little more love :)

It might be a just a tiny bit of v-day in our house- but it makes me smile.
Or maybe it's just that whole 'mini' thing going on.

Everything is just way cuter in mini-form, right??

Coffee Filter Heart Wreath

Another snow day!

UCA closed today's school sometime yesterday so I have yet another lazy day.
Best part: hubby's work sent him home since he wasn't running emergencies today.
They don't want any hospital transports going out  :)

So I get to snuggle in with both my boys today!

So I decided I should really get all my valentine tutorials (the few I have) up before Valentines actually hits!
I worked super hard on my reading nook yesterday and cannot wait to show you guys!

But it needs a few more tweaks before it's big reveal.

Here's something me and little man did during part of our snow day yesterday,
because we decided my subway art wall needed some love...

I made a template for the wreath by cutting a heart shape from some thick posterboard...
Then I just bent that in half and cut the middle out

I used just basic brown coffee filters that came in a humongous pack.
These ones are actually still leftover from my

I love the vintage feel the brown gives it.

Little man handed me filters and I glued them down...
dont' want to burn those precious little fingers!
He's a great little encourager... saying 'you're almost done' every couple of minutes.

We just glued and glued all the way around.

Little man wanted to give the finished heart a hug.
Apparantly our kitty, Hobby, liked it too because he kept wanting to put his paws on it.
He's mad at me in this picture because I kept taking them off.

(and yes...his name is Hobby. But hubby named him! Not me. But little man does call him Hobby Wobby- haha!)

And for now, it's hanging between my subway art.
How is it that coffee filters can be so pretty?

Little man says he loves the 'coffee heart'.

And I love it so much that it might stay out a little past valentines :)

But that's okay right?
We all need some lovin' every day.

Are you ready for Valentines?
I have no idea what to get hubby... he says he doesn't need anything. Ugh.
Any ideas?

Valentine Plate Wreath

Today just has not been a good day.
One of those...

I should have known something was up when I went to pour apple juice for little man and the whole bottle slipped and fell all over the floor.
Ugh. Can you say sticky?

And it just spiraled off from there.
Thank goodness that OT school counts this as our friday...
I just need to get a million things done.

Forgive me for being such a blog slacker... I really hate that I haven't posted in so long.
Remember my little sneak peek I gave you the other day?

I thought I might actually reveal the project today :)

I've been wanting something valentine-y for my garage entry door....

so I gathered a few supplies
The heart and plate were from the Target dollar spot (love!)

The first thing I did was give the berry heart a light dusting of my Valspar antique white crackling spraypaint.
I love how it allowed the red and pink to still show through- it just uncheesified it a bit :)

See those pretty crackles?

The next part is easy easy.
I just hotglued that little sucker to the middle of the plate, got some fun ribbons to hang it with and there ya have it...

A very valentine-y wreath.
I love that it's subway art- a major plus.

Wanna know a secret?
Right after I finished taking these pictures, it fell.

Eek.
Told you I was having one of those days.
It's fine now.
Nothing a little (more) hot glue can't fix.
But still.

Maybe it was just trying to come inside.
Arkansas decided to be cold tonight.

So what do you think?
A nice smattering of valentine decor?

I promise I have more fun stuff to show you... as soon as I get a certian case study written...

Stay warm :)

Vintage-y Burlap Valentines Wreath

I didn't realize that I didn't have a name for this wreath until I went to write this post.
Hmm.

Somehow 'burlap and shapes' wreath didn't sound good... so vintage-y burlap it is.
You're okay with that, right?

I've been dying for something new to be on my doors once Christmas came down and wasn't ready for my spring wreaths (I mean, it IS snowing right now)

I always seem to have a problem with Valentines because it can jump over the 'cheesy' line realll quick.
And I'm not a fan of cheesy.
All the 'love' and 'hugs' and 'be mine'.... I do a little of that.
But I don't want to be smothered in it. :)

Here's what I came up with in a matter of a few minutes
(hubby wouldn't get off the computer to go watch our movie so I had a few minutes while he was wrapping it up to throw this together... I love that!)

I started with a green dollar store wreath form and just wrapped it loosely in my fabulous burlap garland I got at Micheals. I used it all over the place for Christmas and this was one of my scraps:

I hotglued the ends to the form just so it wouldn't fall apart too easily.
I dug around my craft table and found a whole pile of chipboard shapes from my scrapbooking days :)
I grabbed a few I thought would work.

And I also dug out my valentines paper... I didn't end up using the 'love' print...
I ended up using the red 'i love you' paper (it looked vintage-y) and the harlequin tissue paper from Hobby Lobby.
I have used that tissue paper on a million things! I've got a great tutorial coming up that I used it for.
Lurvve it.
Anyways...

I played with the chipboard shapes until I found a way I liked them.

Little man did his own crafting :)

And then I laid the shapes on the scrapbook paper and used my exacto knife to cut around them so I could cover them.
Then I used black ink to distress the edges.

(I'm addicted to fleur-de-lis)

Once they were covered, I hot glued them to the wreath and...
...here she is!

Not bad for a ten minute crafty moment, huh?

And it was just the splash of valentines that my front door needed :)

I found a wooden conversation heart that I distressed and stuck on there too.
Just a smidge of that cheesiness :)

Can't wait to show you the other projects that harlequin tissue paper has shown up on...
and I might just get to post again tomorrow if it keeps snowing :)
*fingers crossed*
And after this weekends' snow flurries, I'm ready for spring to pop up, kay?
