Summer Embroidery Hoop Wreath

I told you I'd be back :) 

I thought I'd throw a little color into the mix and share my new summer wreath. 

We needed something colorful & happy to match the happiness of summer starting a few weeks ago in our household. 

Enter this cutie...

It was so fun to put together and fairly easy! 

The longest part was creating those faux snow cones- but Little Miss and I had a blast doing them! 

'Be Our Guest' Wooden Spring Wreath

It's Thursday friends!!

One day closer to Friday & a beautiful weekend!!

I didn't get a chance to pop in over Spring Break but I'm excited to get back into things and share some fun Spring related projects with you!

One project I actually did a while ago, I'm pretty sure it was over our Christmas break, was update the front door a little. 

I did hang our Christmas wreath for a while but I knew that as soon as Christmas was over, I would need a Spring wreath that could stay on for a while. 

I didn't get the itch to make a brand new wreath and after digging through my stash of decor, I dug out my favorite fall wreath that I made several years ago.

It still is at the front of being my absolute favorite wreath I've made.

I figured since I loved it so much, it should come out more often. 

I dug through things a little more and decided to take apart my Valentines wreath from last year. It just wasn't ever my favorite thing and I figured I may as well use the wooden shape since I liked that part :)

So here's what I had to work with...

When rummaging around through my stash, I realized that the wooden back of the valentine's wreath was the perfect size for framing the rosette wreath. 

So I pulled the fabric off the Valentine's wreath and I was left with the bare wood shape. 

I painted it white (Snowbound by SW) and then decided to add some vinyl to the bottom. 

I had 'welcome' written on our last door so I wanted something different this time around. 

Maybe I had too many Disney songs running around in my head but 'Be Our Guest' just popped into my mind and I thought it was cute. 

To create my vinyl in the font I wanted, I simply wrote out the phrase I wanted in my photo editing software, saved the file and then merged it into my Silhouette Studio.

Trace it with the Silhouette software and then size it to however big you want it. Then cut out your vinyl!

I was too impatient to try and hunt this font down, so if anyone wants to give me a shout with the name of something similar, I'd love it!!

Anywho.

Here's my cute little fall-turned-spring wreath with the wooden frame as it's background. 

Our new front door has stained glass rather than being a completely solid color all over it so it's been a bit of a change for decorating it. 

So I liked how the wooden frame helped create a solid background for the cute little wreath. 

I used aqua lettering for my 'be our guest' lettering- I love that the whole wreath setup is a nod to our inside decor. 

Aquas, whites & yellows paired with natural decor, burlap and typography. That's me :) 

Here's how our whole porch looks:

I've actually worked on it a lot this past week and can't wait to get updated pictures. 

When we first looked at the house, I was in love with the gorgeous brick steps and how they fanned out in front of the front door. 

It is unique to only our house in the neighborhood and I love having a grand entrance. 

Just imagine what it'll be like when pumpkins and mums are around in the fall :) 

I do have plans to update the paint on the door. It needs it desperately- lots of places are peeling and cracking. 

The dark blue is pretty but I definitely prefer a softer, minty blue.

And I think I found the perfect shade a couple weeks ago. 

It looks gorgeous against the brick color and it'll help the door pop even more. 

The wooden frame did start get irritating for a bit on windy days because it would knock against the door. 

It wasn't loud but it still drove me crazy.

A small piece of rolled duct tape applied to the back solved that problem really quick! 

And I already have plans to do something on the back of the wooden frame so I can reverse it up when I want something different!

I love when things can function in multiple ways!!

I'm so happy that I was able to find a way to incorporate my favorite little wreath into the house for a longer period of time. 

The yellow definitely screams spring & I'm hoping it helped make our front entryway a little more welcoming!!

Glitter Leaf Wreath

Happy Monday friends. 

Missed me the past couple weeks?! 

I've been swamped under packing, cleaning the new house, working & our fun trip to NYC last weekend! 

With everything that's going on right now, I feel lucky to even be able to sit in front of a real computer for a few minutes!! 

I thought I'd pop in real quick & share another super easy & gorgeous fall wreath that I did several weeks ago back when I could actually sit down & make something :) 

Since I wasn't able to full out decorate for fall this year with the whole moving thing going on, I figured I'd settle with just a couple new fall wreaths. I mean, the doors aren't moving at the moment so they're safe to decorate, right??

I made this wreath the same night I made my bucket handle wreath so they are somewhat similar but with a few different twists. 

I think this one is a bit more glamorous where the other fall wreath is more rustic chic. 

Isn't it lovely? 

I love the combination of gold, linen and glitter!!

This one only uses a few items so it's a fun wreath to make when you're just needing to keep your hands busy...it's incredibly repetitive for the first bit. 

Supplies needed: 

*linen or muslin (I used a thicker linen material)

*Pins or hot glue gun 

*Glitter leaves (walmart & Hobby Lobby) 

*bucket handle or ribbon (to hang from)

*wreath form

First things first, attach your bucket handle. 

If you're doing this part, make sure to attach it before making the rest of your wreath. 

I attached mine with scrap pieces of yarn. 

If you're using ribbon, you can attach it after. 

This next part is a bit confusing to explain so I added a couple pictures to show you how I folded the linen pieces. 

I cut my piece of linen into squares- I didn't measure them so don't panic!

Just make them about 4-5 in or so. I like having varying sizes to give it more texture anyways. 

In order to attach them to my wreath, I first folded them. 

The first picture shows how I did the first fold- just pull one corner across to the other side of your square in an asymmetrical fashion. 

Then fold it again in another asymmetrical fold (second picture).

I made sure that really none of the edges lined up because I wanted them to flare out and give lots of texture when it was on the wreath! 

  

Start attaching them to your wreath with either hot glue or pins. 

I used hot glue for mine- I'd put a dub in the middle as I was folding it to keep them flat and then put a dab on the wreath form before adding my fabric. 

Work in a circular fashion around the wreath form until it's full. 

Once you've filled the form with your fabric folds, add some bling to it!
I added some gorgeous glitter leaves to mine. 

The big ones were found at Walmart and the smaller gold leaves were a Hobby Lobby find. 

I simply added them with hot glue to the bottom of the wreath. 

I love the simplicity of the fall leaves against the linen background. 

And the texture of the folded fabric make the wreath look so full & cozy!!

For some reason they remind me of corn husks which is appropriate for the season I guess :) 

And of course, I love the rustic charm the square bucket handle brings to it too.
It's all in the details!!

I'm so excited about moving but hate that it's kept me from decorating for fall!

Fall is definitely my favorite season to decorate for and I haven't bought a single pumpkin yet this year!! Boo. 

So I guess I'll get my fall fix from these pretty wreaths and hope that cuts it for this year :)

Summer Succulent Wreath

Guys!! 

It's summer!!!!!

At least around these parts it is :)

It's finally starting to heat up like a typical Arkansas summer and school is officially out.

I've had several days of professional development to finish but I pretty much feel like I'm on break and it is amazing.

I love being home with the kids and having time during the day to work on projects, clean the house and keep things under control.

It's bliss.

And GUESS WHAT??!?!? 

 I FINALLY have time to get back to blogging a bit! 

I really have been focused on learning more about sewing and working with my embroidery machine...which I haven't shared much here on the blog.

I definitely can try to start sharing some more of my embroidery projects here if you want but they aren't exactly something easy to replicate if you don't have an embroidery machine.

But the projects are super cute so maybe I'll a habit of posting once a week about some of the finished things :) 

Anywho.

I did finish a beautiful summer/spring wreath several weeks ago...maybe a couple months ago.

And I've been dying to share it with you.

Didn't it turn out gorgeous??

I have quite a collection of wreaths going on right now but some of my very first wreaths have seen better days so I've been pulling them out of the stash to give them new looks.

I wanted something with a splash of greenery in it for summer this year and I finally stumbled on some inspiration at none other than the Dollar Store.

Here's the breakdown of what was used: 

Supplies: 

*Wreath Form (I like to get mine from Hobby Lobby) 

*Yarn (I used a chunky yellow) 

*Wooden name/sign (mine was purchased on Groopdealz) 

*Felt flowers

*Button cover kits (from Hobby Lobby) 

*Dollar Store Succulents

*Hot Glue Gun

My main source of inspiration started with the cute, tiny little succulents I stumbled on at the Dollar store. 

I'm obsessed with these cute little plants and couldn't believe it when I found several of them on the shelves there for a buck.

Hobby Lobby sells bigger ones and they aren't bad if you catch them on sale. 

But these were perfectly light-weight enough for adding to a wreath. 

The felt flowers I just threw together. There are tons of tutorials for them all over the place, just search them on Pinterest and you'll have a gazillion ideas for them.

I kept mine simple & added covered buttons in the middle of them to finish them off. 

I kept holding off on putting the wreath together because my wreath form was pretty large so I knew that it needed something else to show off in the middle of it all.

I ordered this customized wooden name off my fave site in the world- Groopdealz.com

 I'm a tad addicted.

You can get cute wooden signs & plaques at both Michaels and Hobby Lobby too.

Go with whatever makes you happy :) 

I stained my sign first with dark walnut so that it would show after it was distressed.

Then used my favorite glossy white spraypaint to add a topcoat.

Sand it down a bit and you're ready for it to become the focal point of your wreath.

Here's a quick step-by-step to guide you through: 

1. Cover your wreath form with your desired fabric, yarn or ribbon.

I chose to wrap mine in a thick yellow yarn. 

This part takes the longest so be patient and sit down with your favorite show :) 

2. Paint/make your flowers.

If you're adding a wooden sign, go ahead and paint it and have it ready.

Then either make or buy some fun felt or fabric flowers to add.

The succulents pop easy out of their tiny pots and I just snipped their stem off with some heavy duty scissors.

3. Position your desired items around the wreath the way you think you'll want them.

I always play with my design before gluing/pinning down so I can fix it the way I want. 

4. Once you have the positioning down, go ahead and whip out your glue gun.

I used tiny sewing pins to add my flowers so I can change them up later.

I used dots of hot glue to adhere the succulents and wooden name sign.

5. Add a wide ribbon at the top of the wreath to hang it from and you're finished!! 

In addition to the cute little succulent plants I found at the Dollar Store, I also added in a few Hobby Lobby succulent 'branches' to the wreath.

I felt like they added a little more variety and interest to it. Made it fuller. 

I'm so in love with the bright pops of color and gorgeous greenery in this summer wreath!!

A word of caution, if your front door gets tons of direct sunlight, be aware that the plastic succulents may fade.

I have a glass door in front of my wreath and it doesn't get tons of direct sunlight so it's been holding up great. 

But just a word of warning :)

Burlap & Lace Yellow Ruffle Wreath

I figured we would take a break for a minute from baby stuff and talk a little craftiness.

Since that's what I'm usually all about anyways :)

We have been crazy busy the past week- hubby took on a huge outdoor project that I've been dying to have done for years so I'll be sharing more on that soon! 

We also had the sweetest baby shower last night thrown by some sweet friends & family so I've been busy sorting and getting things ready for baby! Less than 5 weeks- eek! 

But for now, let's talk one of my favorite crafty projects. 

Which is of course a new wreath! 

If you have followed for very long at all you know that I have a slight obsession with wreaths. 

Tons of my tutorials can be found here for them! 

I switch them around in the house a lot whenever my moods change or I'm just up for something different in a space. 

And some of my older wreaths have been retired and re-used for new ones. 

I was wanting something for our front entry area because I had grown tired of the wreath that had been there. 

So I decided something yellow was the ticket :) 

Doesn't it look gorgeous with all the neutrals, yellows & blues going on? 

And after I hung it up I realized it could go for summer & fall if I wanted. 

I"m thinking a couple glittery pumpkins & leaves would be super cute tucked into it come fall. 

I was a terrible blogger and didn't get pictures of the whole process.

But I'll walk you through it the best I can :) 

Basically, it's the same technique I used for my fall rosette wreath that I'm still swooning over. 

The only difference being that I covered the entire wreath form with my fabric squares rather than adding ribbon to part of it. 

Supplies needed: 

*Desired fabric- I used light burlap, yellow striped knit and lace

*Wreath Form

*Straight sewing pins

Cut your squares of fabric and spend an hour or two watching your favorite show & pinning them into the wreath form to create all the gorgeous textures. 

I wish I had more yellow on hand, I would have added a bit more in. 

But I supplemented with some burlap I had on hand which makes it more fall-friendly I feel like. 

Score for having one wreath that works for two seasons! 

I ended up throwing on a quick burlap ribbon at the top for something extra. 

Totally not planned but I love eye-balling my projects like that and messing with them until they 'work' just right. 

I'm thinking it's the perfect addition for the entry area but it doesn't mean it will stay there forever :) 

Switching things around the house is one of the easiest ways to change up the look without spending a dime. 

Which is always the best way to go! 

So how's that for a quick wreath tutorial? 

I love these style of wreaths because they all look different depending on what materials and colors you use. 

Plus they're a fun way to keep your hands busy if you're restless like me when watching tv. 

Is it bad to say that I'm excited about fall coming up and August isn't even here quite yet? 

I think it's Hobby Lobby's fault and all their gorgeous fall decor that is ALREADY out. 

But in the meantime, I'll be waiting on baby girl to make her appearance :)

Which is a thousand times more exciting.
