DIY Candy Shoppe

Did you guys get a chance to check out little man's candy shoppe birthday party I shared last week?

I'm super excited to share a little more about the star of the show (besides little man himself!) which made such a huge, and fun, impact on the party.

If you checked out my party post, you caught a couple glimpses of it but I thought we could get a little more up close and personal with it today :)

Check out our little DIY candy shoppe in all it's red & blue gorgeousness...

Isn't it the cutest thing you've ever seen?
Ok. well I'm a bit biased :)

But it did turn out pretty darn cool if I do say so myself!!

My sweet hubby made the frame for me out of simple plywood.
I came home one day and my sketches had come to life on the driveway :)
That man is pretty amazing....

We added a little shelf under the cut-out window and even added cute metal shelf brackets from Lowes to spice it up.
We decided it needed a little more of a whimsy factor and used our jigsaw to cut out some scallops for the top.

The kids even pitched in to give it a coat of pretty blue :)

Then came the best part...adding all the fun accessories and little details.
I found some cute shutters in my stash and painted them red to add to the sides of the windows.
They might have been my favorite random touch :)

The cute metal 'candy shop' sign came from Hobby Lobby and it's hung with a simple nail so I can make other signs and switch them out easily.
I figured it'd be fun if it could be easily transformed into other fun things like a lemonade stand... or a vet's office. The sky is the limit, right??

I loved having the excuse to pull out cute things from my stash to jazz it up.
My vintage coca-cola cooler was perfect for sitting right under the window ledge.

I created a jumbo chalkboard with some scrap molding to add a cute chalkboard menu.
I just painted the chalkboard directly onto the plywood.

I cut a mustache shape out of plywood with my jigsaw and gave it a coat of chalkboard paint.
It served as the perfect 'open' sign

I love all the blues & reds together- they make for the perfect amount of whimsy and fun.

Can you tell that we had just a little bit of fun getting it all ready?
The kids squealed when they came home from school and saw it sitting in the driveway.

It's amazing what some pieces of plywood and 2x4's can become, huh?
So much potential :)
Check out the dramatic before & after!!

So there ya have it, the heart & soul of our little candy birthday!
We had so much fun creating it and it was so worth the time & effort put into it to see how much the kiddos loved playing with it.

I love that it can be transformed into other fun places with just a few changes and a new sign :)
I can't wait to see what the kids decide to make it become this summer!!

Hope you enjoyed the little tour around our little candy shoppe!
Happy monday, sweet friends!!!!
