Just to let you know,
this post wasn't scheduled to go up today.
But the pictures were already edited.
And it's a project that I sort of LOVE.
And I'm far too exhausted to argue with my computer through editing other photos tonight.
Which if you didn't know this blogging tidbit about me,
I write all my posts in the evening and then schedule them to go out in the morning.
It's shocking, I know :)
I started a new clinical this week in a hospital doing acute care.
Let's just say that it's sooo far out of my comfort zone.
I'll learn lots, I know.
But sixty days of this seems a bit daunting after finishing day 2.
I'm so close to finishing school, guys.
Like... sooooooooo close.
I just have to survive three more months of clinicals.
And then my huge licensing exam. Yikes.
Anywho. Back to the post.
I have oodles of awesome spring-related projects to share including a spring mantel and a yummy spring wreath.
But those will have to wait until I'm not about to fall asleep on my keyboard :)
Do ya'll still love me though?
We'll pretend you said yes :)
Soooo.
One of my favorite songs right now is 'A Thousand Years' by Christina Perri.
I heard it at the end of the Twilight movie & instantly fell in love.
I heard it at the end of the Twilight movie & instantly fell in love.
And yes, I'm listening to it right now as I write this post.
If you want to join me, you can listen to it here.
The lyrics are perfect for me & sweet hubby.
"And all along I believed I would find you.
Time has brought your heart to me,
I have loved you for a thousand years"
So, obviously I'm not a vampire and haven't loved him a thousand years but if you're a romantic, you get it :)
The fact that me and hubby get to be married and live a life together is nothing short of overwhelmingly amazing sometimes.
So I had it in my head to make a subway art type sign with some of the lyrics.
I started with a piece of soft pine from Lowe's... isn't it just a gorgeous blank canvas??
I used my favorite dark walnut to stain it...
Then I gave it a coat of white paint.
This is where the fun starts.
Because I'm not awesome enough to own a Silhouette, I used a different way to get my lettering on.
I love it because it makes it more hand-drawn and distressed.
But man, does it take forevvver.
I used some chipboard pieces I had, laid them on the wood and then traced around them with a black paint marker.
I originally planned to color them in but loved the look of just outlining the letters.
Isn't is gorgeous?
For some of the words, I wanted to have them stand out better so I inked some chipboard letters with blue ink and then just hotglued them to the wood.
I love the texture they give...
The hardest part of it all was figuring out the layout of the letters so all the words would fit and there wouldn't be any crazy blank space.
I did a remix of the lyrics (in case you went and looked them up)
and made them work for the sign.
I picked the words I loved most :)
After I got all the words on,
I took my sander and distressed it.
I'm all for that finishing look :)
I sealed it with a rub-on finishing wax that made it smooth as butt-ah and gave it a nice sheen.
Now that I've teased you with just parts of the whole, are you ready to see it all together??
I think it turned out fabulously.
I'm just a little bit in love with it.
The hand-drawn words, the light & airy blue letters.
The distressed yumminess against the white.
I hung it in my living room on my blue walls & it looks just divine.
Soo...Are you as in love with my lyric subway art like I am?
Anyone else have a favorite song right now that I desperately need to hear?
I'd love to add it to my playlist :)
