With the Fourth of July coming up tomorrow,
(I can't believe it's already here!! Where has the summer gone?!)
I know one of the big things on a lot of people's minds are their loved ones off fighting to keep the freedom that we are able to celebrate tomorrow.
My brother is one of them & I'm so proud of him!
We also have several friends with husbands, sons, & fathers over there too.
I know there has to be more of you with loved ones overseas that you're missing terribly!
So this post is for them :)
I really just can't say THANK YOU enough to all the men and women that are serving our country away from their loved ones and their homes.
I decided to make my parents a wreath shouting out their support and pride in my brother for what he's doing over there & to be a sweet reminder to shoot him a prayer every day we see it.
Easy and simple, right?
I definitely wanted to use yellow since it's the whole 'support our troops' color and everything.
Luckily, I had all the supplies on hand & I made my own printable to include with it too :)
Luckily, I had all the supplies on hand & I made my own printable to include with it too :)
Supplies:
*Wreath form
*Yellow Yarn
*Twine
*Wooden Plaque
*Printable or Saying of choice
For my wreath,
I used the same easy trick I used on this one to make it.
I love using pool noodles to make the perfect wreath!!
So much cheaper than buying those expensive Styrofoam wreath forms.
And Walmart had a bunch of the skinny ones on sale for a buck.
Can't beat that!!
After wrapping the wreath form in yellow yarn,
I did a couple of x's with the twine.
For the saying, I made my own printable (which you can find below!) and attached it to a scrap piece of wood I had with little upholstery tacks.
I love that it gave it a more industrial look to an otherwise soft wreath.
Of course, I ran over the edges with some black ink to age it up.
I gave it to my parents over the weekend so they could hang it up for the Fourth.
I'm sure they'll keep it up for a lot longer, though.
My brother doesn't get back from deployment until October and we'll sure be excited to see him!
Though I don't think he'd be that excited about a wreath :)
That's ok, bubby, it just means we love ya.

ReplyDeleteKelsey, I'm so thankful for the service of your brother and men like him who give themselves in our place to keep our nation safe. I love the idea of the wreath. Thanks for sharing this. I have a story about those who serve on my blog right now if you're interested, written in tribute to people like your brother. I hope you had a wonderful 4th and know that Americans across the country are grateful for your brother's sacrifice. Count me among those in that group.
